Great Introductory book for anyone who wants to code for 8051/8052. I do have a previous experience with Assembly language before, but this book is one of the best books I ever used to learn a new ISA or get familiar with a new architecture.My main complain is not related to the content of the book, The second half of the book takes the reader into a real SBC board that was developed by the author, to start practicing the great contents and learn how to apply and test all the features, The second half of the book is very well detailed and I think anyone even with 0% experience with assembly can follow and learn. except one thing, you can not find that SBC board anymore, I have been checking the manufacturer website for over couple of months now and it was out of stock!! as I said before, I do have some previous experience with other Assembly languages so I was able to set up another environment easily, from Assembler, Linker loader, Emulator, Loader, In circuit Debugger and Use another 8052 board for testing. This might be hard for anyone who has no experience for Assemble language.Bottom Line: this is by the best Introductory book I ever used to learn a new ISA. and if you got lucky and found the SBC on eBay or somewhere else then you will definitely end up learning how to code for this well known processor.
I'm a pretty experienced programmer and have also been a part time college instructor. I've been away from assembly language for quite a while. Recently had to work on a project involving the 8051 and bought this text.I was blown away by how clear the text was written along with excellent examples. He assumes you know very little and in a very clear manner takes you through understanding the 8051/2 hardware, assembly language, serial communications, and interrupt handling.It is a solid resource!
I bought this book based on the reviews on here. Apparently these reviews do not tell the truth about the book.The book is filled with Information that could be looked up on the internet.Lacks details, lacks succinct examples and solutions.The author seem to jump from one topic to the next without taking into consideration its readers.THIS IS NOT THE BOOK TO LEARN 8051 Microcontroller.Regrettably, my $40 dollars is blown !~If you are a advance undergraduate or graduate student, this book will be a total waste for you.Look somewhere else !
I bought this book to augment a course in embedded systems. The examples in this book are a great reference for any design involving the 8051 processor. It can certainly help you out of a jam, or give you an idea how to implement potential solutions with that processor.
Well written and complete technical books are hard to come by; this is one of them.After reading this book one will have no troubles programming and applying the 8051/8052 MCU. I found no other books were necessary.
This guy REALLY knows his stuff, and the book is so easy to follow. I have NEVER done assembly programming, and didn't know ANY of the syntax. After a couple of chapters, I was programming in it like I had been doing it for years. The way the author lays things out makes it a breeze to learn how to open up the world of 8051/8052. I *loved* the book, and I use it as a reference ALL THE TIME.Thanks Craig!!!!!!!
A little boring just because it covers all the detail on the internal hardware but still the most complete reference about the 8051/52. Definitely an useful book if you want to exploit properly the internal resources of the 8051/52.
