As a surgical technology student, I was excited to find this book on Amazon. (I already own a copy of Alexander's Care of the Patient in Surgery, but I thought a book geared towards surgical technologists would be especially helpful). I ordered it immediately.It came in today, so I sat down with my copy of Care of the Patient and compared the two. I was extremely disappointed to see that they are nearly identical. CotP has more info overall. This book, Surgical Procedures, leaves out some of the surgical pharmacology information and changes the "Perioperative Nursing Considerations" in each chapter to "Surgical Technologist Considerations" which contains most of the same info, word-for-word, but leaves out details of patient monitoring, preoperative patient preparation, etc. It also leaves out "Sample Plan of Care" tables found in CotP. It does contain about one page per chapter of photos of surgical instruments that the nursing version does not contain, but the pictures are too small to see any details and be of much help. (There are already numerous photos of instruments in the nursing book). All the operative procedure descriptions are the same, with occasional re-wording on some of the steps.The only things I can see in the Surgical Procedures book that the other book doesn't have is Surgical Technology Preference Cards (which are pretty much very generic lists for supplies typically used for any procedures in a particular specialty- hemostatic agents, drapes, drains and dressings- and never mentions any particular kinds for specific procedures) and at the end of each chapter is a short review of about 10-20 questions.If you already have a copy of Alexander's Care of the Patient In Surgery, then this is a waste of money. If you don't have a copy of it, then it is cheaper than this book (currently about $20 cheaper, though that may change) and has more information. I am giving this book 4 stars because it is a very good book, but not 5 stars because it is a lot of repeated information. I actually prefer Care of the Patient in Surgery because it gives me information not found in my textbook (Surgical Technology for Surgical Technologists), and any info in Surgical Procedures that is not in Care of the Patient, seems to be in my textbook (or in the Surgical Instrumentation book that was required for my class).

This book is great. The price is cheaper than buying it at school and it is a great resource when needing to know everything about surgical technology.
Was told this is basically the bible for surgical procedures for surgical techs to use. It breaks down the details of the kind of instruments you will need for the regular surgical procedures.
