Please forgive me commenting on my own work but I wanted to explain why this book was written. The original MySQL JSON Data Type documentation in the MySQL Manual was wonderful if, and only if, you understood the the functions. If you were new to them, they were hard to comprehend. So I decided to details with practical programming examples on how to use each of the functions including the GeoJSON and included an introduction to the MySQL Document Store (a NoSQL JSON Document Store built on the new X DexAPI).I have found in my many years of programming that a good, concise code example can often explain more than slogging through the documentation in hopes of getting a glimmer of how things really work. This book is full of examples to help you get up to speed quickly with the JSON Data Type in MySQL.JSON is a great way to store data to reduce many-to-many joins. For years I have been preaching to normalize your data to third normal form (or better) but that is often over kill. So instead of having lots of little 'stub' tables in your schema, you can have a mutable JSON column (or more) to store that data that changes rapidly or does not fit your relational structure.And yes there a few 'errors' in the book. I wrote 'idempotent' and somehow it got changed to 'impotent' in the review process. Yikes! Sorry about that. And there are a few more goof that I am noting just incase there is a second edition.
